If you’ve been to one of our recent events, you’ll have noticed a few new faces on our events team. One of the additions is Timmi Aplin-Barrett, who we’re delighted to announce as the Theatre Manager and main point of contact for the theatre.
Hailing from the remote and beautiful d’Urville Island, Timmi earned a degree in journalism at NZ School of Broadcasting in Christchurch but wanting to escape the big smoke and with a yearning for a quieter lifestyle, she landed with family in Hector September 2023.
Currently, Timmi is a freelance writer for a magazine company in Christchurch, organises monthly drop-in sessions for the Rainbow Youth Group in Westport and regularly subjects West Coast listeners to her chipper tones on Coast FM.
“Musical theatre has always been a big part of my life; once upon a time, I was going to be an actress. Imagine my delight to find a beautiful theatre, right here! The first Lyric Theatre event I ever attended was a quiz night, quickly followed by the Celebration of the Ages back in November which I thoroughly enjoyed. I do love a good excuse to dress up.”
Timmi had been actively seeking opportunities to get more involved in her new community and joined the volunteer fire brigade soon after arrival.
“I now find myself becoming quickly attached to The Lyric Theatre and I’ve never been more thrilled to be part of the events scene right here in Granity. My theatre dreams are coming true; Mamma Mia, here I come!”
You’ll see Timmi at most of our events, either as event host, assisting behind the bar or welcoming attendees. We’re thrilled to have this critical role covered by a dedicated member of the Northern Buller community, relieving other volunteers who have been thin on the ground for some time. Timmi was an obvious choice for this important position and TLTG committee unanimously supported her appointment to this role.
