The Lyric Theatre has welcomed the return of Granity School, reconnecting an important partnership after a nine-year hiatus.
Historically, the school has been a frequent user of the theatre since it's establishment in 1956, utilizing its expansive hall and stage spaces for a variety of activities, including performing arts, indoor sports events, and end-of-year prize-giving ceremonies.
The school’s access to the venue was halted in 2014 when ex-tropical cyclone Ita destroyed the theatre's roof, rendering the building unusable for several years. However, since the extensive rebuild and restoration efforts undertaken by the community, lead by the Northern Buller Communities Society, The Lyric Theatre, Granity Inc. has invited the tamariki of Granity School back to their familiar stage and we couldn't be more thrilled.
This rekindled partnership was assisted in part by a kind donation of icecream from Talleys, a company known for its commitment to community support.
Thanks to Talleys and to celebrate this homecoming, the Lyric Theatre was able to provide the tamariki of Granity School a delightful treat – ice cream cones adorned in sprinkles. The gesture served as a refreshing and well-received surprise on a warm summer day, adding an extra layer of joy to the students' return to the theatre.

As the students took to the stage for their end-of-year performance rehearsals, the atmosphere was filled with excitement and gratitude. The Lyric Theatre and Granity School are not only reclaiming their shared space but also creating new memories and traditions that reflect the resilience and unity of the community.
This heartwarming story of collaboration, resilience, and the power of community support showcases how a small act of generosity can have a profound impact - welcoming a space for creative expression by the tamariki of Granity School and revitalizing the cultural heartbeat of the Lyric Theatre.

Thank you Talleys, Granity School and our community volunteers Mel & Ricki for making this possible.
